Many people who have taken to eating more plant food do so because of concern for their overall health, that they have a dietary problem through eating meat products or that they are truly concerned for the future of the planet.&nbsp; On a plant-based diet it is recommended that you consume all types of plants such as fruit, berries, green and root vegetables, legumes, wholegrains, nuts and seeds and all herbs and spices. People who take to this type of diet may see themselves as vegan or vegetarian, but not necessarily all, as small amounts of animal meat and fish may be consumed.&nbsp; If you are thinking of taking up this plant-based diet, you should do lots of research so that you can partake of the correct amount of foodstuff for your lifestyle and your health, and when doing so, I would suggest that you do it in stages as opposed to making a sudden and drastic change. Start by cutting down on red meat, chicken, fish, and sea-food, then gradually start cutting down on dairy products, items that are derived from animals, whilst upping your intake of vegetables and salad items, so that you can see and feel how you are progressing. The plant-based diet was first introduced by biochemist Colin Campbell in 1980 after a 10year study on the diet of people living in rural China, showing that consuming high amounts of vegetation and with the low consumption of meat, it appeared to reduce the occurrence of some diseases.
