I am sure we are all aware of the polluted state of our world’s oceans… The biggest source of pollution comes from the land, as many tons of unwanted items are dumped into our oceans on a daily basis. It has been noted by marine scientist that thousands of birds have died owning to the litter in the ocean and many sea mammals are killed through waste products like fishing lines and nets each year. One of the most common items found in the ocean is plastic in all shapes and sizes. Plastic does not break down easily and marine creatures often mistake it for food. Most of the rubbish that is dumped, is released miles out into the ocean, but a lot of it manages to find its way onto our beaches. Oil and chemicals are often dumped in the ocean helping to cause problems for sea life. Around 70% of the planet is covered in water, so it’s the ideal place to dump billions of tons of waste and toxic materials on a yearly basis. The problem with all this rubbish is that it is affecting marine life that many of us like to consume, so in an amazing way we are inadvertently getting our rubbish delivered back, albeit in a different form… Every government in the world must be aware of the seas and oceans pollution problems so it’s up the them and their ministers to set the oceans of the planet on a new course of health and safety. We can all do our bit too by recycling as much as we can in the correct manner. Don’t forget to remind your children and grandchildren about the need to take care when enjoying a day by the seaside and make sure they dispose of their day’s rubbish in a responsible manner because it’s their future that’s at stake not ours.
