In our fast-moving world, stress is ever more present in our lives. In fact, many people are constantly stressed out! However, we should take a good look at stress to see what it does to our bodies, and to see how we can manage it. The body was only meant to become stressed if in a dangerous situation… Stress releases adrenalin and other natural hormones, which aids fast decisions on our reactions to danger, hence the fight, freeze or flight response we can take. Being continually stressed is a slow killer, so how can we tackle being stressed? We can conquer stress by allowing ourselves to be calm. Being calm has many benefits, you do not have to be born with a calm nature it can be learned through taking time out to relax, staying still, slow, purposeful breathing and by looking after your mental health. Try not to panic at every situation that arises, such as being late, worrying about yourself or family member, troubled about money, arguments with friends or family, online bullying, work, relationships, all stuff we get stressed about, but being stressed out doesn’t help any situation, it doesn’t solve any problem, but being calm does… Being calm helps us make better decisions, helps us think clearly, stops us saying or doing things on impulse. It helps us be emotionally stable, it reduces anxiety, and helps us focus on what we need to do to make our lives more relaxed and joyful. Being calm, enables us to help others too, there is nothing more powerful and healing than remaining calm when a fearful and anxious person talks to us, and with a relaxed attitude, the fearful person will gradually calm down and their stress will slowly subside.
