How well do you know yourself? Do you know yourself at all? Have you ever tried to understand yourself and do you know why you act the way you do, what forms the decisions you take? You may never have thought of looking in at yourself before, but it can be helpful to you if you want to live a good lifestyle and if you want to be happy and content with your life. To be able to understand or be self-aware means that you have insight into your own strengths and weaknesses and into your own actions and character. Are you too easy going? Are you too forthright in your words? Do you think before you act? Once you have looked seriously at yourself, you may be able to change the way others see you – if that is what would make your life happier and more successful. Here are a few ways that might help you assess yourself… Unless you are in a dangerous situation, always think first before you act, hold back that letter, that text, those words, as once out in the open they cannot be retracted and could come back to haunt you. Always think twice, three times before you do something you might regret later on. Hold on to your emotions and keep them under control, especially the feelings of anger, jealousy, boredom and indifference, as these can have a massive impact on your loved-ones, colleagues and friends. Build on the good things you have in your life, listen to those around you – Have you ever been told that you are a good listener, a trustworthy friend, generous to a fault? Have you ever been told to keep a secret and you have? Have you ever dropped what you were doing to help out a desperate friend on the other end of your phone? If you have then those are the good attributes you should be aware of and build on them.
