About Awareness.

About Awareness.

In this series I am going to study Awareness. Being aware of something, anything is to be conscious of the fact of what is going on around you and where you are in any situation. Being aware means that you can control what is going on in your mind, even if you cannot control the outcome of the situation you find yourself in.  Just imagine, for example, (the worst-case scenario) you are walking along a dark road, and you gradually become ‘aware’ that someone is walking behind you, suddenly feeling somewhat threatened, your mind begins to take over, and your body and starts giving you instructions on how to react. Should the one behind you go off in a different direction, a sigh of relief will ensue, and your mind will slow down, and all the instinctive body reactions that are preparing you for action will gradually ease-off. If on the other hand, the threat does not ease-off and indeed, increases, a rush of a hormone called adrenaline will continue to be automatically released, which increases your heart rate, assists breathing and blood circulation so that you are prepared to fight or for flight. Naturally, should the worst happen, and you are attacked there is no assurance of the outcome, but just being ‘aware’ could save your life… Being aware, and in the moment, means you are thinking and managing your thoughts which affect your everyday feelings, emotions, and life in general.
