Emotions: About…

I hope you enjoyed the twelve-week articles on ‘Awareness’ and that it has helped you deal with some of the life-problems we all encounter. Now, for the next 12 weeks I am going to look into our emotions.  Emotions are triggered by events or situations that arise, usually, they are short-lived but can be seen by those around us. Emotions that perhaps come on suddenly, for example, you may be at a dinner party or friend’s gathering where you feel happy and relaxed, when suddenly someone says something hostile or bad-mannered which instantly creates the emotion of annoyance, even anger perhaps… Should that person immediately apologise or laugh, and say they were only joking your hostile emotion may go as quickly as it came.  Emotions show immediately through our facial expressions, so anyone can see if you are hurt, upset, angry or worried… Our emotions have a direct effect in our behaviour and decision making. Meaning, should a friend annoy us with a word or action we can immediately walk off or turn away…  Emotions are part of our human biology brought about by chemicals that help regulate our coping mechanism and decision making. We cannot stop showing our emotions, they are electro chemicals that are flowing though our brain just waiting to be activated by a word, an action or a sudden situation that arises, so take heed of your emotions and let them help you cope with life and not hinder your overall wellbeing.
