As human beings we are biologically destined to get sick… And, of course it’s so easy to pick up all kinds of germs and infections, mainly through our mouth, nose, eyes, or other bodily orifices, we can also pick up bacteria, etc., through wounds such as bites, scratches and cuts, or anything that breaks the skin barrier. As soon as viruses, microbes or any other bacteria enters the body it quickly starts to multiply and if we do not attend to it quickly the problem soon spirals out of control, which means we have to resort to medication, the GP, or even hospital. To avoid problems, we need to act fast, and the first port of call has to be our natural sanitiser which is our saliva, which can heal external wounds quickly, which is the main reason that cuts, bites and scratches in the mouth heal fast. Then there are our hands, covering a wound with our hand, if it is relatively clean, can stop infections entering, also applying pressure with our hands can help stop a flow of heavy blood, encouraging blood to congeal. To help a baby release swallowed air after a feed, you can gently tap or rub its back which will help ease any discomfort. If choking on food, or anything that becomes lodged in the throat, a few sharp taps on the back can help release the offending object. Any aches, pains, or hurts can be soothed away with gentle stroking which also encourages the recipient to calm down, relax and perhaps fall asleep. Gently massaging a bruise can help it disperse quicker than just leaving it. Our hands are our live-in doctor, they can do so much to help heal us, sooth and relax us. And, don’t forget, we can mentally talk to our hands, by keeping them from going to substances that can make us sick, such as recreational drugs, buying bars of chocolate, cigarettes, bottles of alcohol and other things that can make us ill. If our hands are tempted, we just need to say a firm NO, and they should obey!
