Virtue: Patience: I always loved sewing and when I was 13, I learned how to work a sewing machine… By 16, I was at college brushing up my skills, and where a teacher there said how patient I was, what a virtue to have she whispered. I was quite taken aback, as I didn’t even know what the word ‘virtue’ meant, so I had to research it. I of course, realised very quickly how much that virtue aided my work, and if you want to have the virtue of Patience here are five ways that can help. Don’t try to do something if you know you haven’t got the time. If your effort isn’t successful straight away you will become frustrated and annoyed. Practice being patient. We often have to wait for someone, or wait for something to happen. So, there is no point in becoming too frustrated or cross, as there could have been an unavoidable problem. To avoid becoming worried, angry or annoyed practice being patient, learn to sit, quiet, comfortable and still for 5mins, then 10mins, at a time, just be… If you try to tackle a task and it doesn’t work out don’t get annoyed, leave it for an hour or so, then try again, and if that doesn’t work, leave it until another day. You will never achieve anything if you don’t show patience… Some people are infirm and slow, and some older people are even slower, be patient with them as one day, you may be as slow as they are. Some people, even some young people, especially children are naturally slow in most everything they do, so if you want to help them you have to be patient and slow down to their pace. Try, try, try again, if something doesn’t work out or happen, please don’t give up, for with patience and perseverance you are bound to succeed. Remember: Being patient is very rewarding, not only for yourself but for those around you. There are occasions when we need someone who will give us their time and attention, times when we need to lean on someone for comfort and sanctuary, we don’t always have to talk or be given advice, we just need to be patient in the time of need.
