Bravery, is a tremendous quality that can enhance your life whilst enriching and perhaps saving the lives of others. Here are five ways you can be brave, and recognise bravery: Risking your life for others: If you are employed in the armed forces, you have to be aware that you may have to take up arms one day in order to protect the innocent and vulnerable, and to secure your country. We still remain forever grateful to those who gave their lives in two world wars, in order that those left behind, that’s you and I, can live in peace. Stand up and be counted: There are many ways to be brave, especially if you become involved in a dangerous career, a police officer or detective for example, the fire service, ambulance and hospital staff, miners, builders. There are many professions in which people risk their lives every day for the benefit and safety of others. Going one step further: Many brave actions are performed without thought of personal safety, especially if we see a vulnerable person or child in trouble or in danger… We don’t have to consider our own safety when we act in an emergency situation, we can without thought, go that one step further when our brain and body floods with adrenaline, enabling us to become instinctively brave. Face the future with confidence: We all have to move forward in life, and there are sure to be times when we need to be brave and face our fears: Bravery can be learned from our parents and carers. To help a child who is afraid to go to school or nursery for the first time, adopting an assured voice, and a confident hand can help a child move forward with bravery and assurance. Face up to your fears: What are you afraid of? Whatever it is, in order to move forward, you have to be prepared to face up to your fears otherwise you will never conquer them, try confiding in a family member or friend, who may have had to face the fear you are trying to cope with… Their support, confidence and advice can be invaluable of great value to you. Remember: Bravery has many faces, it can be a scared child going into a classroom for the first time; facing up to a diagnosis you have been dreading, having to visit the dentist, having to stand up to someone you are afraid of, having to risk your life for the safety of someone else… dying to save your child. There are so many acts of bravery.
