Your body is brilliant at communicating with you and telling you if and when something is not right. So, how does your body react when you are stressed, even if you don’t think you are, if you listen to your body’s communication and warnings you will soon realise the problem and be able to take steps that will ease down the stress. Prolonged or intense stress can be very harmful to your body and can cause long-term health problems, whereas, short bouts of stress can be thought of as normal and may even help when you are facing challenges, chronic stress can weaken your immune system, and can cause heart problems. If you are experiencing too much stress your body will let you know by creating headaches perhaps, muscle tension, digestive problems, being irritable and argumentative, having difficulty concentrating and experiencing sleep problems. If you find that you are having to endure some of the physical and mental symptoms of stress, to combat these problems, you will need to set yourself some time out to think about how you can calm yourself down and give your stressed-out body a break. Speak to someone you can trust, someone who will give you the time to offload, seek help from your GP or health practitioner, you can also try breathing exercises, and gentle, physical workouts.
