Diets: Atkins.

The Atkins diet was first developed by heart specialist, Dr Robert Atkins in the 1960s. In his book, which became very popular in the 1970s he advised restricting carbohydrates, that could help see rapid weight loss. Dr Atkins advised and encouraged people who wanted to lose weight to consume high amounts of protein and healthy fats along with leafy greens, full-fat dairy products, nuts and seeds whilst foregoing bread, potatoes and other carbs.  Restricted are all the favourite carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, rice, starchy vegetable like potatoes, corn, sugary foods and drink, and most fruit. It is advised that you cut down drastically on carbs for the first two weeks, which causes the body to use its stored fat for energy, as opposed to the carbs you were eating on a daily basis. This restriction of carbs creates a state of Ketosis in the body whereby because of the lack of sufficient carbs, it uses already stored fat as fuel. The Atkins diet rises and falls in popularity, as it’s a great way to lose weight fast, but it’s a rather difficult diet to stick to for very long. As the lack of carbs can become somewhat debilitating causing one to feel tired, through headaches, constipation and general weakness. However, the Atkins diet suggest you follow its plan in phases, whereby you cut cabs drastically for a couple of weeks then gradually increase carbs until you feel your weight stabilising. Then and only then you will be able to see the type of food you can eat regularly in order to keep your weight in check.
